Festive lights are brightening the Great West Road once again, as businesses and developers along the Golden Mile come together to celebrate the road’s centenary year. The installation marks the culmination of a year-long programme honouring 100 years since King George V officially opened the Great West Road on 30 May 1925—a milestone celebrated earlier this year with a launch event in Boston Manor Park.
Watch below to see the Christmas Tree lights being switched on, as Cllr Shantanu Rajawat and the Mayor Cllr Amy Croft from Hounslow Council were joined by representatives from JCDecaux UK to mark the occasion.
The new installations draw inspiration from the Golden Mile’s mid-20th-century tradition, when major firms such as Trico, Firestone, Gillette and others would decorate their landmark buildings with Christmas lights, illuminated signs and festive trees. In those decades, companies informally ‘competed’ to outshine one another, creating a spectacular seasonal display that became part of the road’s identity. This year’s lights revive that spirit—bringing a sense of shared pride, creativity and community back to the corridor.
The 2025 display has been generously funded by organisations invested in the Golden Mile’s future, including:
JCDecaux, Sky, Hadley Property Group, UWL, 11:11 Management, McGrath Group, Renault West London, and The Vinyl Factory.
As the Golden Mile marks its 100th year, these lights serve as a reminder of both its architectural and industrial heritage and its renewed momentum. With continued collaboration across businesses, landowners and public partners, the next century of the Golden Mile looks every bit as bright as the last.
