Sustainable development

Sustainability has been at the heart of our business ever since our founder Jean Claude Decaux came up with the idea of providing bus shelters free-of-charge to councils, paid for by the advertising on them. Today we continue to develop innovative solutions that help cities and our partners prosper and grow, staying true to the vision of our founder to integrate sustainability into the fabric of our products  and our services.

JCDecaux ranks well above the media sector average in 5 top sustainability indices worldwide. 
We are working for the future of cities and deliver the highest ESG commitments, independently rated with real rigour.


We are a lead member of Ad Net Zero and have pledged to be carbon net zero by 2050 for Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 emissions. We will reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 60% by 2030 and by 90% by 2050, and Scope 3 emissions by 46% by 2030 and by 90% by 2050. We have reduced our emissions by 27% against our 2019 baseline.
