JCDecaux has launched its largest ‘smart city’ digital network in London, following the award of a new 7-year Street Furniture advertising contract with the London Borough of Havering.
A total of 25 new digital 6-sheet (D6) panels have been installed, with ‘smart city’ services launched across the borough, including free public Wi-Fi and air quality monitoring technology. The new contract was awarded via a competitive tender process in 2024, and it will provide a valuable source of income to the London Borough of Havering.
Under the new contract, JCDecaux and the London Borough of Havering have streamlined the Outdoor advertising estate, with over 50 traditional poster panels across the Borough removed and replaced with 25 new panels. Each new D6 panel features 2 digital screens, and the full network of 50 digital screens is now live across the town centres of Romford, Hornchurch and Upminster.
The new digital screens will bring new opportunities for local, national and international brands to connect with audiences in Havering’s busiest commercial centres, with timely and relevant communication. The screens also provide a valuable platform for local businesses to advertise their services. Among the first brands to access the new screens will be Nick’s Locks, a local business that won a prize of Out-of-Home advertising worth £25,000 with JCDecaux UK at Havering’s Small Business Awards on 24 September.
Councillor Ray MorgonJCDecaux’s continued investment in Havering will help strengthen the borough’s advertising offer with the latest digital technology. The new digital smart city network will not only enable brands to build awareness with dynamic content, they will also help the Council keep residents informed of local events, important service changes and Council campaigns. The digital network is a valuable addition to our vibrant high streets and supports our wider objectives around health and climate - including council-led initiatives to encourage healthier eating.
