JCDecaux and Sky launch new News Channel in London

18 November 2008

When you’re on the move – you need to know what’s going on. Free newspapers have proved a hit with tube and train commuters, but 55% of London’s commuters travel to work by car. JCDecaux’s PrimeTime network of big screens, sited at key points on the city’s arterial routes, is set to bring the latest breaking news to a huge new audience. From 18 November, commuters in London will be able to catch up with the latest news by checking JCDecaux’s network of 16 PrimeTime digital billboards. The deal with Sky News will bring content for the first time to roadside Outdoor, providing the latest headlines, business news, sport, show business and weather. With content updated via a live data feed, London PrimeTime will be topical, up-to-date and relevant to the roadside audience.  Spencer Berwin, Managing Director of Sales, JCDecaux said, “Our research into digital Outdoor showed that consumers expect to see content on our screens and that the Sky News service would make the latest, breaking news, a daily part of their commute. With roadside being the dominant form of commuting in the capital, London PrimeTime will be a real alternative to The Evening Standard and the Metro.” John Ryley, Head of Sky News, said: “This is a great opportunity for the Sky News brand to provide breaking news and top stories in a new environment on roadside Outdoor. Sky News is already a pioneering multi-platform news provider, online, on mobile phones, interactive tv and via Sky News radio and we will be extending Sky News’ service to a huge new audience in central London.  We have worked closely with JCDecaux to make sure we deliver the right content, in the right format and always up to date.”  On 25 March 2008 JCDecaux launched its digital PrimeTime network, the largest deployment of roadside digital media in Europe.
