JCDecaux signs GMPTE large format billboard contract in Manchester

02 July 2008

JCDecaux, the UK's leading outdoor advertising company has signed an exclusive Outdoor advertising contract with the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) for the sales and marketing of 40 large format billboards in Manchester. The contract signing follows a competitive tender held in February 2007 that was contested by a number of rival Outdoor advertising companies.  The previous contract was held for over 10 years by Clear Channel. With this award, JCDecaux now holds the large and small format Outdoor advertising contracts offered by GMPTE in Manchester.  Under the contract, JCDecaux will develop advertising on key billboard locations in and around Manchester City Centre, JCDecaux will introduce new products such as the Première 450 display and the recyclable 'Hi-Definition' format as well as developing new scrolling backlights in selected areas. Billboard locations include the upmarket city centre shopping areas of Deansgate and Corporation Street.

Spencer Berwin, Managing Director, Sales at JCDecaux said, "This new billboard contract in the UK’s second city will strengthen our offer to advertisers, building upon our existing partnership with GMPTE for small formats. This is an important contract to have secured, which will allow us to develop high quality advertising in key areas of Manchester. As part of our investment in GMPTE’s portfolio, we will be replacing all existing paper-and-paste billboards with our new Hi-Definition recyclable billboards and introducing new formats such as the Première 450 format."

Mike Mellor, GMPTE’s Estates Services Manager, said: "Public transport runs through the heart of Greater Manchester’s towns and cities so there are some great advertising opportunities. I’m sure JCDecaux will use its knowledge and experience to take full advantage of them. This new contract will allow us to make the most of our billboards, so that we can reinvest profits from them on improving public transport."

Following the May 2007 billboard contract award by Glasgow City Council, JCDecaux also holds small and large format contracts in Glasgow.
