Innovation. A constant process. We push the boundaries of innovation through an ambitious research and development policy, anticipating the needs of everyday users in all our environments, and developing products designed to make their lives easier. Accessibility and connectivity are key, and we hold environmental considerations at the heart of our activities. Our in-house research and development division, based in France, works on around 400 projects per year.
Unique capabilities. The four pillars of innovation. All our innovations are based on four criteria: quality, style, functionality and environmental performance. Environmental performance means eco-friendly design – incorporating strength, durability, low energy consumption, air pollution monitoring and the use of recyclable materials.
A sustainable future with Living Green Walls
JCDecaux, as part of its commitment to sustainability and inspiring cityscapes, worked with Wandsworth Council to install a Living Green Wall adjacent to a large format digital screen at East Hill. The Living Green Wall works to reduce street-level concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and particulate matter (PM).
Research has shown that the planting of vegetation in street canyons can reduce street-level concentrations by as much as 40% for NO2 and 60% for PM.
JCDecaux offers an array of smart city opportunities and can tailor a business model based on specific requirements.

Air Quality Monitoring
JCDecaux has worked to develop an air monitoring system to check and report localised air quality. The compact micro-climate system records CO, O3, NO2, SO2, humidity, light, temperature, sound and pressure. .
The system is internet-connected, allowing anytime access to live reporting via an online dashboard. The data can also be used to power digital advertising displays via JCDecaux’s SmartCONTENT platform, delivering contextual messaging on the streets.
JCDecaux aims to support partners by providing solutions and business practices which seamlessly integrate with sustainable development commitments.
